题目:The story of the neutron
时间:5月16日(周一)、5月18日(周三)晚上7-9点
 地点:江安校区综合楼C座C406
讲座摘要:
The neutron was
the final atomic particle to be discovered (Predicted by Ernest Rutherford in
1920, discovered by James Chadwick in 1932), but in just a short period of time
the knowledge of the neutron transformed the world. In these lectures I will
discuss the story of the neutron and some of its applications in science. I will
highlight the fact that China is building a new powerful source of neutron beams
for research into the physics and chemistry of materials.

for Condensed Matter and Materials Physics in Queen Mary University of London.
His research areas include the use of neutron beams for research into the atomic
structure and dynamics of materials, coupled with computer simulation. He
obtained his PhD in the University of Birmingham, and was previously a professor
in the University of Cambridge. He will be giving two courses of lectures in the
forthcoming University Immersion Programme.
